Two more Friday Frolics at NHYC – May 13 & 20

FridayFrolic

Imagine racing in our beautiful harbor WITHOUT weekend traffic or other races going on in the vicinity. That is exactly what Phil Ramser had in mind when he initiated the spring Friday Frolic Regatta at NHYC. The first was held on Friday, February 26, followed by March 18, April 1, and April 15. The rest are scheduled for:

May 13, 2016
May 20, 2016

This is informal daytime racing at its best, so if you haven’t participated so far you can still join the fun!

Enjoy lunch at the club before the 2:00 start, and meet for libations after racing. What a great way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Flotilla for Lee

On behalf of the entire Lee Sutherland Family, we want to thank those thinking of Lee during this most difficult time and thank those who were able to participate in the very moving flotilla tribute when he was laid to rest September 20. It just means so much. It was really, really beautiful and is so appreciated — Lee would have loved it.

We also want to thank all the members of our Harbor 20 Fleet for the many wonderful years of fun sailing, competition, and camaraderie — being part of the fleet and skippering his number 48 just brought him so much joy.

Fair winds, and thank you again,

Lee and Hollie

H20 Flotilla for Lee Sutherland – Need a ride?

Win & Carlita Fuller will be joining the flotilla in their Santa Cruz 50 “Rocket”, and invite anone who would like to join them. Contact Win at 949-673-1568 for departure information.

We have also heard that Jon O’Donnel will be at NHYC in his 65 ft Powerboat from 8:30-9:30, and also invites passengers.

We are hoping to see a bunch of H20’s, as that is what Holly thinks Lee would really have liked. Warren Duncan will be along in a Grady White safety/tow boat, so we should have all bases covered. Rendevous is at 10:00 at BYC.

H20 Flotilla for Lee Sutherland – Need a tow?

If you not confident about your motor or batteries, and are wanting to join the flotilla for Lee Sutherland Sunday morning, but are concerned that there might not be any wind, Warren Duncan has arranged for a very capable tow boat. If you would like a tow, please contact Warren at 714-264-3728 or warren.duncan@ussaws.com. Let him know where your boat is and he will arrange to pick you up.

H20 Flotilla for Lee Sutherland, Sunday Sept 20, 10:00 AM

LeeSutherland

Words can not express how deeply sorry we are to tell you that Lee Sutherland, our Harbor 20 friend and great competitor, passed away on Monday, September the 14th.

This Sunday, September 20, the family will be taking Lee offshore to his final resting place aboard the yacht Windfall. They would like to invite friends and competitors of Lee’s to follow Windfall in their Harbor 20s, out of the Harbor for about 500 yards, for a memorial service. Windfall will leave the Sutherland dock around 10:00 AM and will be passing BYC shortly therafter. The family would also like to invite everyone for a casual gathering to celebrate Lee’s life at around 1:00 PM, “Island Time”, on their dock at 1401 North Bay Front on Balboa Island.

We know that nothing would please Lee more than to be celebrated in the company of a flotilla of his beloved Harbor 20’s.

Sincerely,

Debra and Peter Haynes

Learn to Race with Chris Hill, Wed 4/29 7-9 PM at BCYC

Each part of a race requires three things from the sailor: perception of important conditions, processing and decision making, and performing what you decide effectively, the three Ps.

Based on his experience and what he’s learned from better sailors, Chris Hill will lead a seminar on how to learn what we need to improve to get better race results, and how to learn it.

We hope you will join us and bring a story or two to share about a lesson you have learned about racing.

Strategy & Tactics Seminar, September 6 at BCYC

The culmination of the High Point Series is coming up soon, with the Fall Schock Regatta, the Championship Tune-up and the Championship Regatta, followed by the beginning of the 2014-2015 racing season. Join us for this seminar and get a better understanding about what is happening on the race course!
